The Business Centre Club, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and under honorary patronage of the European Economic and Social Committee located in Brussels, launches non-commercial, nation-wide initiative in Poland - the European Medal. Its goal is to promote products and services offered by companies operating in Poland, stimulate the interest of Polish entrepreneurs in European standards and regulations applicable in the European Union. European Medal is granted to products and services which meet European standards.

The competition's jury, including twenty-four experts on the retail sector acting under the chairmanship of Prof. Witold Orłowski, chose winners in eight categories. The jurors took into account not only financial performance, but the also assessed store appearance and level of customer service.

METRO GROUP won the "Laurels of Responsibility" award. The Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan (PKPP Lewiatan), the National Committee of the Solidarity trade unions (KZ NSZZ "Solidarność") together with Deloitte presented the award. They honoured the Metro Education programme as a role model element of a responsible CSR strategy. The award was presented in the framework of the project "Promotion of the Corporate Social Responsibility Standards at Enterprises in Poland".
